KEEP THE PROJECT MOVING.

Your clients share.
You get to work.

Accounts, shared links, transfers and review—without losing the thread of the project.

01

Connect the accounts you actually use.

Keep Google Drive and Dropbox accounts in separate profiles. Browse shared folders and add client links using an authorized connected account.

02

Put the files where the edit happens.

Choose a local or external drive. Control simultaneous downloads, connections per file and bandwidth from Settings.

03

An interruption isn’t a restart.

The native engine tracks downloaded blocks so interrupted transfers can resume. Follow your queue across account profiles.

04

Review first. Download what you need.

Stream supported video, leave timestamped notes and export feedback with frames to PDF. Codec support depends on the operating system.

A STRAIGHTFORWARD DOWNLOAD.

FIRST THINGS FIRST

A little setup. A smoother handoff.

Provider setup happens in FDM and in the provider’s own console. This website never asks for your cloud credentials.

01 / INSTALL

Get the desktop app.

Windows: run the EXE setup or MSI installer. macOS Apple Silicon: open the DMG and move FDM to Applications. Review any operating-system security warning before allowing the app to run.

02 / CONNECT

Bring your own provider app.

Follow the provider guides below, save credentials in FDM Settings, then add an account. The browser opens for provider sign-in and consent.

03 / DESTINATION

Point it at your drive.

Choose a default download folder in Settings. Make sure your external drive is mounted, writable and has enough free space. Select files or a shared folder, then start the download.

Google Drive — OAuth setup
  1. In Google Cloud Console ↗, create a project and enable the Google Drive API.
  2. Configure the OAuth consent screen. Add your Google account as a test user when the app is in Testing mode.
  3. Create an OAuth client with application type Desktop app. In FDM → Settings → Google Drive API, save the Client ID and Client Secret.
  4. Add your Google account in FDM and review Google’s consent screen. The current app requests full Drive access (https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive) for file-management features, including deletion. Connect only accounts you intend to authorize.
  5. Google’s testing, verification and token-expiration policies apply. If access expires, reconnect the account. No credentials should be entered on this website.
Dropbox — app credentials & permissions
  1. In the Dropbox App Console ↗, create a Scoped access app. Choose Full Dropbox to browse existing client folders; App folder access limits you to that app’s folder.
  2. Enable account_info.read, files.metadata.read, files.content.read and sharing.read for browsing and downloading. File-management actions may additionally require files.content.write.
  3. Save the App key and App secret in FDM → Settings → Dropbox API, then add the account and review Dropbox’s consent screen. If the browser flow asks for a redirect URI, use rclone’s loopback callback http://localhost:53682/ in your Dropbox app settings.
  4. A Dropbox shared link still needs a connected Dropbox account in FDM. Shared-link permissions and provider limits apply.

A FEW GOOD QUESTIONS

Before you dive in.

Is FDM free?

Yes. Public FDM downloads require no invitation or FDM activation. Your cloud provider’s storage, quota and account rules still apply.

Does a shared link use my cloud storage?

The shared-link workflow streams files to your disk instead of copying them into your cloud storage. A connected account with permission to access the source is still required.

Are downloads resumable and hash-verified?

The current native engine tracks blocks to resume interrupted downloads and checks exact byte counts. It does not perform a full post-transfer hash verification. Keep source backups for critical media.

Can I review every video format?

The preview player uses the system webview. Codec support varies by OS. Pro/RAW media may need downloading and opening in your NLE. Timestamped notes can be exported to PDF.

Where do my credentials go?

OAuth app credentials are stored through the OS keychain; account tokens are kept in rclone’s configuration in the desktop app’s data directory. This landing page never collects them.

What determines download speed?

Your network, provider limits and destination drive all matter. Tune concurrency and bandwidth in Settings. No fixed speed is promised.
